Virgin Media cracks down on down loaders

It looks as if the first UK internet company to crack down on illegal down loaders of music and films will be Virgin Media. What the record companies are looking for is a warning system to be put in place, this is expected to take the form of a three strikes and you are out policy. However what this means is not quite clear yet.

With an estimated six million people illegally downloading something every year, this could turn into a massive industry within an industry. The Virgin Media system is set to put their plan into action within months, so there is not much time left to play with.

It is not known whether or not the scheme will be from now, or if they are planning to back date their enquiries in order to catch out those people who have downloaded in the past. How this is going to be policed too, is open to debate. Would this mean that you loose your internet connection for good or a limited time? Will banned users be able to sign up with another ISP? These questions need answering before any of this goes ahead.
