Google goes into power

Geothermal power is not a new technology; it has been used in Iceland and places like that for some time. However, this can usually be produced because of open ports to volcanoes where steam reaching 150 degrees C is expelled.

Nevertheless, the new geothermal energy rush, being part funded by Google, involves drilling down up to three miles into the earth’s crust in order to tap into the superheated steam. This can then be transformed into power in the same way that it has been done in Iceland.

You cannot help but think that this is like one of those James Bond films where the villain are always drilling holes in the earth or trying to dominate the world’s power supply in some way. Alternatively, maybe the people over at Google HQ are just eco friendly businesspeople.
