Worm attack warning

Researchers at Microsoft are warning Windows users to install an emergency patch that they released last month, but it would seem that not users have done so yet, which is a cause for concern.

The company noticed more attacks last weekend, spiking during the mid week period, yet this worm which was spotted by software firm Symantec back on the 21st November.

This worm will exploit a vulnerability in the Windows Server Service this is used by all the versions of the operating system, it will then attempt to connect to file and print servers on the network.

The worm also has one other nasty feature, it will reset the system restore point, and this means that the user is unable to restore the computer to a point before the system was compromised.

Microsoft says that all computers that have the patch, which is MS08-067, are completely safe from being infected by the worm.
